Middle District of Georgia Bankruptcy Bench and Bar Committee

As announced at the Middle District of Georgia Bankruptcy Law Institute Seminar in September 2023, the Court has stood up the Middle District of Georgia Bankruptcy Court Bench and Bar Committee, effective November 1, 2023.

The mission of the Middle District of Georgia Bankruptcy Court Bench and Bar Committee is to provide advisory assistance to the Middle District of Georgia Bankruptcy Court on matters pertaining to the establishment, amendment, or abrogation of the Court’s Local Rules and to encourage outreach and other activities deemed appropriate by the Committee for the improved efficiency of the Court and the Bankruptcy Bar in the Middle District of Georgia. Middle District of Georgia Bankruptcy Bench and Bar Webinars

On May 17, 2024, the Middle District of Georgia Bankruptcy Bench and Bar Committee hosted a webinar by Stretto, Inc. You can watch the webinar at this link: “Assisting Debtors with Their Student Loan Debt.”

The 90 minute seminar discussed, among other topics:

•    Ongoing federal programs to assist student loan borrowers such as Fresh Start, On-Ramp, IDR Recount, and PSLF Buyback
•    Income Driven Repayment Plans, including the new SAVE plan
•    The U.S. Department of Justice guidance on student loan discharge adversaries
•    How to determine the most effective course of action for the borrower
•    Tools supporting consumer debtor attorneys in analyzing potential courses of action, preparation of all required documents, and prosecution of the course selected


As part of its mission of improving the efficiency of the bankruptcy system in the Middle District of Georgia, the Bankruptcy Court Bench and Bar Committee will host a webinar entitled “Zoom 341 Meetings: An In-Progress Review.” The purpose of the webinar is to allow trustees the opportunity to provide their “lessons learned” since the implementation of the new Zoom 341 meeting structure, and to allow attorneys and attorney staff to ask questions or provide suggestions. The webinar will take place on Monday, December 4, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. EST. The webinar will be recorded and will be available on the Bankruptcy Court Bench and Bar Committee’s webpage.
